Tips to keep your swim pool clean

Preventative maintenance, just like you would do on your automobile or home, will go a long way in reducing lifecycle cost on your swimming pool. Heed the advice below and save time, money and hassle. None of this is hard; it is just a matter of making it a habit & Pool Management Companies.

  • As you are monitoring your pool, take note as it will let you know if there is an issue:

– Are the returns in the sidewall of the pool weak?

– Is the in-floor cleaning system working correctly? Your pool should be free of 99% of dirt and debris.

– How is the water clarity in your pool? The bottom should be visible and the water crystal clear.

– Is the drain at the bottom obstructed?

– Is your hose cleaner moving as it should?

– Any abnormal odors?

  • If any of these conditions exist, it is likely time to clean the filters. Most pools should only need this done a couple of times a year. There are exceptions though based on bather load (pool usage).
  • Wipe/clean tile line weekly. This will reduce build-up. Keep oh at 7.2 and the scum line will have a hard time developing. When pH is really high the water will leave deposits on everything.
  • Always keep chemicals stored out of direct sunlight. Keep them in a cool dry place. Do not store acid and chlorine right next to each other.
  • Your pool should not need to be shocked on any regular basis if you have an ozone system. If you need to do it, do it at night. Use non-chorine based shock if you plan on swimming any time soon. Another way to shock your pool would be to run your pump for 24 hours using your ozone system. This works great! If you are on 24-hour circulation (2-speed or variable speed pumps) than you should be just fine Aquatic Management & Swimming Pool staffing.
  • If you start seeing any cracks around the perimeter of your pool between your deck and your tile, caulk it with a small bead of clear silicon. Do not allow the water to migrate from inside the pool in and under the deck through cracks at this joint. This creates problems, eventually and easily prevented. Some irony: The most damaging thing to your pool is the pool water.
  • Keep vegetation, animals, chemicals (like fertilizers and ironite) away from and out of the pool. Nitrates from bird droppings and waste from animals and people are food for algae. Don’t feed the algae!
  • Check your gates and any protective barriers to keep those little people safe! Gates should swing out away from the pool, Lifeguards not in. They should have some sort of self-closing self- locking/latching mechanism that is functional. There are many options for pool safety.

Keep your pool’s chemical readings in these ranges:

  • PH: 7.2 to 7.8 (I generally keep it on the LOW end)
  • Alkalinity: 80 to 120 ppm
  • Calcium Hardness: 250-450 ppm (The valley has high calcium; as a result, this is not always possible, so don’t drive yourself crazy over it.
  • Cyanuric Acid or Conditioner: 30-50 ppm (Remember Tri-Chlor tablets already have conditioner built into it) & Pool Management jobs
  • Chorine residual: 1.0 to 1.5 ppm; up to 2.0 in the summer with ozone, 3.0 without & Lifeguarding
  • Combined chlorine: 0 ppm. By managing pool chemistry right, you will substantially reduce the amount of chlorine needed. Much of it is wasted.

Optimal swimming pool chemical ranges

Preventative maintenance, just like you would do on your automobile or home, will go a long way in reducing lifecycle cost on your swimming pool. Heed the advice below and save time, money and hassle. None of this is hard, pool management it is just a matter of making it a habit.

  • Check pool chemistry 1-2 times per week during the summer and once per 1-2 weeks in the winter. pH should be kept between 7.2 and 7.8 the lower the pH on this scale the less chlorine your pool will need. Why? Because as pH rises chlorine starts becoming less and less active therefor many consumers just keep adding it. Chlorine at 7.0 pH id about 50% active and at 8.0 is about 10% active. Control pH properly and you will need and use much less chlorine. See chart at bottom optimal pool test results.
  • Clean out skimmer basket(s) weekly, or as needed if conditions exist. The skimmer is installed in the side of the pool and its primary job is to skim the surface of the pool before debris and contaminants become saturated and float down to the bottom of the pool. Everything in your pool enters at the surface of the water, the effective the skimmer is, the more stuff it can skim off the pool the better. There is a round access panel on your deck, Pool Management Companies open it up and dump the contents of the basket as needed. Keep it cleaned out at all times.
  • Clean the hair and lint pot located on the front of the pool pump every couple of weeks or as needed. Turn off the pump to do this and release pressure on the system. This is the basket installed just inside the clear glass of you swimming pool pump. People with any of the various styles of will rarely need to do this. Instead, they will clean out the debris catcher or leaf basket. I highly recommend a leaf trapper, debris removal system on all pools, swimming pool management especially new ones. Get a variable speed or 2-speed pump sooner than later if you have not upgraded already. The variable speed pump will easily pay for itself relatively quickly. I started using these multi-speed pumps 20 years ago. They are worth the initial expense.
  • Check your water level when you are out near your pool, is it too high or too low? Your water needs to be right at the center level of your pool skimmer or pool tile for optimal results and performance. If it is low, it can run the pump dry and burn it up, or if too high, the skimmer door will not work properly. That door keeps the debris in the skimmer.

Tips to keep your pool clean

Preventative maintenance, just like you would do on your automobile or home, will go a long way in reducing lifecycle cost on your swimming pool. Heed the advice below and save time, money and hassle. None of this is hard, it is just a matter of making it a habit.

  • If you have a deck chlor or inline chlorinator these need to be regularly checked for proper chlorine tablet levels, loading or possible clogging. (In Arizona use quality Tri-Chlor Tablets). This unit depending on style and features has the ability to add a constant residual of needed chlorine.
  • If you have an Ozonator make sure the light is on and it is actually working. Ozone as well as UV or a combination thereof can reduce the amount of chlorine your pool uses. They are worth the investment and I have used them for over 20 years with nothing less than great results. There are different types, and many have different installation and use instructions & pool management. Make a point to be familiar with the one installed on yours. There are also other products on the market such as the Pureion System that have amazing benefits and give great results.
  • If you have a salt system, salt pool, or what some call a no-chlorine pool (a misconception) they are properly called a chlorine generator, then heed these tips. All this unit does is produce chlorine for you so you do not have to buy it, store it or handle it. This convenience comes at a cost and has some inherent risks. The cell must be kept clean and your pool chemistry becomes even more critical for its proper function. Do not add to much salt, if you can taste it, Pool Management Companies your pool is likely over salted. Salt systems artificially push pH up. You will use more acid as a result. This unit will not bolt on and solve everything. In the end you have to pick your poison. They are great when used and understood properly. Can be costly to buy and maintain, but provide a wonderful experience in the water.
  • Clean your filter regularly or as needed. The best filter for Arizona pools, in my opinion, are cartridge filters (there are exceptions though), they provide maximum flow rates, waste little valuable water (no backwashing), get the water crystal clean and only need to be cleaned a couple of times a year. Yes, they may need to be cleaned after a heavy storm or once every few months depending on conditions in your pool. It would be best to clean them about every 4-6 months. Just remind yourself to do it each time you come back from the dentist, swimming pool management or every other oil change in your car if you are a planner. If you have an extra set of elements — which is a great idea — it is a much easier and quicker job. Soak dirty filters in a 10% solution of muriatic acid or a solution of TSP (Trisodium phosphate). Use a rubber trash can. Wear gloves and eye protection. Be careful! Always add acid to water, NOT water to acid. Afterwards, rinse until clean and let them dry. Put your supplies away until your next swap-out.

Pool circulation system

Keeping your pool sparkling clean doesn’t have to be as cumbersome as you might think. All pools are different, and so are their maintenance needs. However, they all share one commonality: The secret to pristine pool health is regular, routine care. If you choose to handle common problems like murky water or broken pumps on your own, make sure to always consult manufacturers’ manuals before fixing or using equipment.

Skimming the pool’s surface by hand every few days is one of the fastest and easiest ways to keep your pool clean. Floating debris will eventually sink, becoming harder to remove. Use a long-handled net called a hand skimmer or leaf skimmer to remove leaves, bugs and other unwanted items. Skimming significantly increases the efficiency of the pool’s circulation system and lowers the amount of chlorine you’ll need to add to your Pool Management Companies.

A pool should be vacuumed every week to keep water clear and reduce the amount of chemicals you need to add to it. There are many types of pool vacuums. If you have a manual design, work it back and forth all over the surface of the pool like you would if vacuuming carpet. It’s good form to slightly overlap each stroke. Check the filter each time you vacuum, and clean it if necessary.

There are three kinds of Pool Management filters: cartridge, sand and diatomaceous earth. While there are different maintenance procedures for each type, all require periodic cleaning depending on the type of filter and how often a pool is used. Cleaning the filter more often than recommended can actually hinder the filtration process. A clean filter is less efficient than one with a mild amount of dirt in it because the dirt helps trap other particles, which removes debris from the water. However, you don’t want to let the filter get too dirty. A sign that it’s time to clean is an increase in flow between the pressure gauge and flow meter. Clean the filter when the difference reaches 10 to 15 pounds (4.5 to 6.8 kilograms) per square inch.

Pool Management Group heaters typically require the least maintenance of all pool equipment. Gas heaters can work fine without being serviced for a couple years, and electric ones can last even longer. Consult your manufacturer’s manual for specific care instructions. Sometimes, calcium scales build up inside the tubes of a heater and restrict flow, preventing the water from heating adequately.

Winterize pool

A lot of water will be lost throughout the swimming season largely because of evaporation and normal wear and tear, such as swimming, splashing and exiting the pool. When you remove debris with your skimmer throughout the week, that’s also a good time to check the water level. Ensure it doesn’t fall below the level of the skimmer, otherwise the pump could be damaged. If the water is low, use a garden hose to bring it up to safe levels.

Pool Management water should be tested regularly to make sure it’s clean and healthy. The pH scale is a measurement of acidity or alkalinity that runs from 0 to 14. A reading between 7.2 and 7.8 is ideal; this range is safe for swimmers and helps sanitizers work at top efficiency.

You can monitor your pool’s pH level with a testing kit. There are many kinds of testing kits available; however, most homeowner versions are either reagent kits or test-strips. Reagent kits aren’t too difficult to use. You take a sample of pool water, then add liquids or tablets to it. The water changes color, indicating its chemical balance.

Organic contaminants like ammonia or nitrogen build up in a pool over time. Massive amounts of such contaminants can interact with a pool’s chlorine to form chloramines, which give off that potent chlorine smell that many people associate with Pool Management Companies. To get rid of this harsh odor, it’s necessary to superchlorinate — or shock — pool water back to normal chlorine levels.

Sometimes it’s difficult to determine if low water levels are due to evaporation or a leak. You can discover leaks in your pool by conducting a simple bucket test. Fill a plastic bucket three-quarters full of water & Pool Management Group. On the inside of the bucket, mark the water line. Place the bucket in the pool, then mark the water line on the outside of the container. (If the bucket has a handle, remove it to allow for better stability while floating.)

Where you live determines whether or not you should winterize your pool. If your location experiences temperatures that drop below freezing, you’ll need to take steps to ensure that your pool stays healthy. Residual pool water left in pipes can freeze and cause damage. To prevent this from happening, use an air compressor to blow water out of the pool’s plumbing when swimming season is over. Also, drain as much water as possible from the filter and heater.

If a pool is properly winterized, it can easily be reopened come swimming season. Most importantly, don’t remove the pool cover until you’ve cleaned the area around the pool. Sweep or hose away debris to prevent it from getting into the pool. Next, use a garden hose to fill the pool to its normal water level. Reconnect everything that was disconnected. Water will need to flow through the circulation system, so open the skimmer line valve.

Pool Cleaning and maintenance

Pool maintenance can be a drag, but there’s no point having a great pool out the back if it’s full of sludge. Cleaning and maintenance are crucial to keeping the water safe for you and your family, and to make sure you actually get to use it!

The cheapest option is to do it yourself by ‘hand vacuuming’. The ‘vacuum’ is attached to your skimmer box to create suction and then you manually push the vacuum around the surfaces of your pool management with a pole. Typically, this will take between an hour and an hour and a half, and you’ll need to do it once a week.

Without regular sanitisation, all pools develop bacteria – which can pose serious health risks. Water top-ups, leaves, grass, dust, and even people all cause bacteria to grow; these factors, Pool Management Companies  along with the size of your pool, will determine the level of sanitization you need.
